Overview
This 1-Day Essequibo River tour begins in Georgetown, with a drive across the Demerara Harbour Bridge before heading into the vast Essequibo River. Along the way, you’ll experience some of the river’s most remarkable cultural and natural highlights.
One of the main stops is Fort Island, home to historic Dutch colonial ruins that tell the story of early European settlement and ambitions in Guyana. Later, we pause at Sloth Island Nature Resort for lunch and the chance to spot wildlife — including, occasionally, sloths in their natural habitat.
Before returning, the journey continues to Baracara Falls, where guests can enjoy a refreshing swim in the cool waters. This full-day adventure combines history, culture, and nature, offering a memorable experience on Guyana’s largest river.
