About This Tour
Discover Guyana’s incredible birdlife on this 10-day birding adventure through rainforests, rivers, and savannahs. Beginning in Georgetown and travelling deep into the Iwokrama Rainforest, Atta Rainforest Lodge, Surama Eco-lodge, and Karanambu Lodge, the journey is designed to maximise opportunities to encounter over 800 bird species, including more than 30 Guiana Shield endemics.
Highlights include searching for Harpy Eagle, Guianan Cock-of-the-rock, Crimson Fruitcrow, Rufous Crab-hawk, Blood-coloured Woodpecker, and the elusive White-winged Potoo. Birders also have the chance to encounter Giant River Otters, Black Caiman, and even Giant Anteaters during savannah explorations.
Community-owned lodges ensure authentic cultural connections with Makushi and Wapishana communities, while optional extensions offer opportunities to spot the critically endangered Sun Parakeet, Red Siskin, Hoary-throated Spinetail, and Rio Branco Antbird near the Brazilian border.
This journey is ideal for both seasoned birders and nature enthusiasts looking for an experience of one of South America’s last great wilderness areas.
